Wolfwerk Studio Pics Oct & 2011

The painting of the DeYoung is underway. My pet died a few weeks ago and some time has been lost in preparing a memorial in our backyard. Finished the first layer of marks for the museum today, cadmium red light. Walked by the museum mid morning after heavy rains. The holes deformed the copper in the stamping and the lips retain rather than shed water, as a knife blade would. Each hole and its depression held a share of water. The building was way darker than is usual, black showing beneath the red in a sullen note. It will surely patina faster than predicted. I noticed the hash marks the architect encoded between the windows and at the rear of the "porch" they follow the fingers of everything following the sun. Like Mayans or ships at sea.

Photos from a weeks work at wolfwerk studio. Progress on the art Cabinet, some clearance of the art closet, and a beginning on the drawing for the painting of the DeYoung after finishing the study of it and the Science center paintings from the conceived music concourse triptych.

Cat and I went to the DeYoung in the music concourse on Sunday and used our memberships to view the Picasso exhibit on tour while Musee national Picasso in Paris renovates. It was an excellent show, consisting largely of the box hidden under the artist's bed and the sculpture which was too personal, or marred, to move in the marketplace. Lots of penis and vagina and satyrs and dissembling women. Nationalism and death. Today was monday and I worked the sky in my study of the DeYoung. Shades of Cezanne.

Catching up in the studio. The new 2-masted Mabef electric easel arrived and one busted back later is in place, I love being able to hold the remote in my left hand and a brush in the right, less strain (when I recover from humping it upstairs.) The Tondo crawls along, and I have started the second study for the Music Concourse Triptych. With the new easel in the studio I shall begin painting the panels for the Triptych soon.

Back at work to keep me sane while packing by necessity and hoping nothing new rears its ugly head to get in the way of fulfilling the move. Started this Tuesday, after Cat went back to work.

Professional pics soon to have web pages of their own

These pictures of my paintings are awaiting webpages of their own here at wolfwerk.com. Cat and I are gessoing three panels for the music concourse triptych, plus one circular panel for an abstract contemplation to keep me painting prior to the move to the new studio at the beginning of February and during the period in which I will work on the drawing for the concourse paintings.

Inserting grassy knolls. This construction is very different from the music concourse, of course, and each step in composition now is entirely fanciful.

Back at work, solving problems in the abbreviated construction of my Music Concourse study. The scene is kind of a projection of that seen by the statue of Francis Scott Key at the end of the Plaza.

GG park museum square study November 4, 5

This is a beginning to a project I have thought a great deal about. Let us watch what reality means to the idea. I have strung together the structures from 3 sides of museum square in Golden Gate park into a single line for graphic cohesion, and fun.

pleasant surprises on Facebook this week, old mentors and old buddies, both. Painted on 2 werks today, tweaking the bridge in skyquake and starting the boats, plus the dandelions in peril of scarlet have moved along. My back hurts, so I am going horizontal for a bit after lunch. Bye, y'all.

worked on 4 paintings today, one blue not included here for obvious reasons. Nearly done with skyquake, all but touch-up and boats. Today it was a wide range of grays with a few metallics thrown in. Got some volcano action in the dandelion box and worked on cleaning up some ragged edges by adding high-key edge contrast to the arabesques and arcs in the latest (dandelion) tondo. Today Cat was home from work and we lost a bid on a house studio a block from here.

The Wreck Of The New Carissa On A Snow Puffin Nesting Beach Near Coos Bay, Oregon

The Wreck Of The New Carissa On A Snow Puffin Nesting Beach Near Coos Bay, Oregon

The freighter New Carissa ran aground on the beach near Coos Bay, Oregon in February of 1999. Mark Adam and I were driven in the foul weather to overlook the beach with sketching supplies. The military bombed the New Carissa, breaking it into two parts and dumping its oil on the beach, where the endangered snow puffin had a nesting ground. Mark Adam and I each did paintings later from the sketches made from high above the beach warm and dry in Catherine's old Vanagon Synchro.
