In order to understand the Wizard of Space and Time you have to understand my wordforms. In wordforms I adopt the strokes and gestures of each letter as a way of expressing form and meaning simultaneously, like concrete poetry without the typesetting. I was surrounded by people with long academic art pedigrees and drinking problems, all of whom decried the suppression of their natural instincts by an over-education in the Beaux Arts, so it seemed a good idea to stay away from drawing a human hand a thousand times. Using words like peace or conflict to portray figures or scenes seemed less susceptible to an obsessive over-emphasis on exactitude in modeling the human form, or for that matter, anything. So, when my lovely little Greenpeace girlfriend said I should make her a wizard of space and time for her first birthday with me, this was the best this penniless painter could do with wordforms for "space" and "time". But it was here that I began my visual expression of a futurist worldview which has underpinned and guided my work since.
