This painting was made with oils on canvas.

This is my most successful commission to date. It was done for a prominent Chinese family who desired the powerful symbol of the bridge to improve the feng shui of their home. I struggled for years with a variety of compositions before settling on this panoramic view of the bridge from a path above Fort Mason, across San Francisco Bay. The massive cement caisson anchoring the span to the Marin Headlands is a central point to this view of the bridge; reminding us it is the hills which hold the Golden Gate Bridge in place. Though reluctant to return to landscapes from the abstract arena, I did so for this commission. I found my roots again, and have a larger canvas of this same scene. Freedom from the constraints of commissioned tastes and cultural bias allows for more experimentation and invention. I like this work, but find the small scale rather restrictive for such a large subject.
